What is a Specialized Residential Home?

Community Living Options currently operates nine (9) Specialized Residential homes in Kalamazoo County for adults diagnosed with a mental illness and/or a developmental disability.

A “specialized residential home” is licensed and overseen by the Department of Community Health (DCH) as well as the local Community Mental Health Authority.  Specific guidelines are in place to meet the standards of the licensing body as well as funding sources.

Skill Building Day Program

Skill Building at the Alcott Center

Community Living Options operates a Skill Building Assistance Program (also known as a day program) called the Alcott Center that serves adults with disabilities and/or a mental illness. The Alcott Center was relocated in 2012 to Mall Drive in Portage, MI.  The new building was renovated specifically to meet the needs of the people attending the program with a handicap accessible kitchen for cooking groups to a computer lab for members to learn computer skills that are needed in everyday living — especially for employment or volunteering.

Transitions

Transitions of Kalamazoo

Transitions was developed in partnership with KCMHSAS given the critical need for a different service model for eligible individuals in our surrounding community. The home is designed as a duplex.The North and South units have 3 single bedrooms on each side with a common vestibule overlooking the backyard. The staff are experienced with specialized training and regular staff meetings to ensure plan implementation consistency as well as support for clinical challenges. In addition to enhanced staffing patterns 24 hours a day, there is the Program Manager and Clinical Director on site to support the staff and consumers.

Supported Living

Community Living Supports

CLO currently provides community living supports (CLS) or otherwise known as “independent living services” to adults with disabilities and/or with a mental illness in their own homes or apartments.  These supports are based upon the individual’s needs and desires in living sites that they rent, lease or own in the community.  Staff supports range from 24-hours per day to a few hours per week.  Crisis support and on-call managers are available 24-hours per day, 365 days per year.

What is Bronson House?

Community Living Options now offers a five-bedroom home designated specifically for Seniors.Direct Support Professionals provide 24 hour care on-site care in a home-like neighborhood setting.Bronson House is a licensed adult foster care home that tailors to each individual resident’s needs.
